K'NEX for 6 - 8 year olds:
These are years when the small muscle groups are more under control and developing fine motor skills enable the child to be successful with smaller and smaller toys and toy components. The desire to learn and know is becoming more formalized and the children are reaching a stage in their development where they are motivated and able to spend relatively long periods of time working on projects whether they be puzzles, crafts, or construction models. The approach to the things in their environment is much more planned and less frenetic than in their earlier years as they may begin collections, hobbies, and they are more interested in a finished product.
At K'NEX our goal is to provide the finest in imaginative and creative toys for your child. In an effort to provide your child with and exciting building experience, we have reviewed some of the childdevelopment research so we can provide some guidance as you make selections. Ultimately the decision is in your hands and we are confident that you will make selections that expand and extend your child's play experiences.
Interestingly enough, children in this age group are developing the ability to play cooperatively and can consider larger more complex building projects. The combination of more developed fine-motor skills and the increased ability to play cooperatively will enable friends, family members, or parents to work together with the child on many of the K'NEX Sets that may just look too daunting to some children.
Youngsters in this age group are interested in realistic toys and they are fascinated by motors, moving parts, gears, and the like. Since children in this age group can also follow instructions well and they are more goal oriented than their younger counter parts they will find the K'NEX Tub and Case sets which build a variety of different models will fit their needs and strengths quite well. The children are growing up and their play is becoming more organized and purposeful. Check out other K'NEX sets in the construction aisle that address a theme that is of particular interest to your child.
Many of our children will adopt different learning styles as they grow and develop. Some will become more verbal/linguistic in their learning style while many of their friends, siblings, and classmates may be more visual/spatial in their learning styles. Parents and educators alike realize that in order to provide children with the greatest opportunity to learn and flourish in this ever-changing world, we need to provide them with experiences and opportunities that span a variety of learning styles. K'NEX construction toys offer you the parent with an excellent opportunity to help provide rich, visual/spatial construction experiences for your children
